NURSERY SCHOOL 2-5 years

Some time around a child’s 2nd birthday they will progress, usually with a group of friends, to the younger of the two nursery school groups. It is at this stage that children begin to wear the green sweatshirt and polo shirt embroidered with the nursery school badge. Children enjoy wearing their uniform and it makes them feel very grown up. Later on when a child is over 3 years old they will move up to the more advanced nursery grouping. Both groups are led by nursery teachers and the children benefit readily from this. If talk of school and uniform sounds a bit formal; in practice it certainly isn’t. There’s no sudden change from the Village Nursery activities. Gradually, children are encouraged to complete activities to their own ability, their efforts are always praised and they are helped to feel a sense of achievement about their work. Soon the children become ready for a little more structure within their day and this is when we begin to introduce proper pre-reading, pre-writing and number work, in a very easy, relaxed and fun way – there is never any pressure.

NURSERY SCHOOL ETHOS

The aim in nursery school is to create an exciting learning environment where children can grow in skills and confidence. By taking an imaginative and creative approach to early learning, teaching staff help make learning fun for children. When this happens, children soon become enthusiastic learners and will quickly, and naturally, develop a wide range of advanced skills.
